Flexible cystoscopy

A thin, flexible telescope is passed along the urethra to look at the lining of the bladder. It is usually done under local anaesthetic, as an outpatient.

Cystoscopy is used to investigate blood in the urine, recurrent infections, and other bladder symptoms. It is performed in both men and women.

You are awake. Local anaesthetic gel is used. The examination itself is usually short. You can normally go home the same day.

The urology service is not open for booking yet. Nothing on this page is an offer of treatment.
