Why people consider it
What are the benefits?
- Considered when the implants themselves are what you want changed
- Replacement can restore volume in the same surgical session
- Removal on its own leaves the breast without an implant
Often considered in the situations above. A consultation is the place to talk about the result you have in mind, and whether this procedure is a sensible way there. Nothing is offered until that conversation has happened. Individual results vary.
Implants can be taken out, replaced, or both. If the capsule around an implant is removed as well, that is a capsulectomy, and it can be done in the same surgical session.
People come to this after a rupture, after capsular contracture, or because they no longer want the implants they have. The incision is usually the one from the original surgery.
Removal or replacement of implants is sometimes combined with a breast uplift in the same surgical session.
